What an historic day this is for our country. The events of this day prove to me once again that dreams are not only possible here, but that the pursuit of the fulfillment of those dreams is a reality. We are very lucky to live in a country where a peaceful transition of power is possible … and often taken for granted by most of us. No matter your political affiliation, the events of this day will hopefully give you confidence to strive to fulfill your dreams. I hope that you will also carry your motivation with you as you continue to work with the clients you are serving. We still have so much to do in order to finish this recovery effort that was started only hours after the storm had passed. People came together to begin the process by removing debris, delivering much needed supplies to their neighbors, and beginning the process of the human services aspect of the recovery which we continue to strive to complete. I hope that you will listen to the inaugural address today, either live or at some point later in the day, paying close attention to indications of how the recovery efforts will be viewed and supported by the new administration. Things to listen for include housing policy, fiscal accountability policy, discussion of emergency management and response, the roles of agencies in the response and recovery efforts, volunteerism and national service, and the role of faith based organizations, just to name a few. Be encouraged, be motivated to serve, and be thankful that our country believes in a peaceful transition. There are very few places on earth where this type of day is even possible. Blessings, Stephen
